The Nicholson Cricketer Cup Begins

This Sunday 22 May, the two preliminary rounds of the Nicholson Cricketer Cup will be played. Old Brightonians travel down to Sherborne to play the Pilgrims, while at Malvern a real heavyweight clash is in the offing between the holders, Old Millfieldians, and their hosts, Old Malvernians.

The match at Malvern will hopefully be streamed so that it can be enjoyed around the country and even overseas. If this is possible, the link will be posted on this website later in the week.

Millfield have six of the players who triumphed in the 2021 final, including their match-winner, Nick Pang. Nick Brothers has retired from both the captaincy and playing, so Ali Easton will take over the captaincy. Three players come in from the school side which won the national T20 cup in 2018 - Tom Bevan, George Hankins and Will Easterfield - and there is a return to the side for former Surrey batsman, Rory Hamilton-Brown. Malvern will be captained by Josh Haynes and also have a young side, including four players who won the national schools T20 in 2019, and also have home advantage on a ground which usually produces lots of runs.
