Report from the Lord's Scorebox

Charles Fellows-Smith (Old Alleynian CC Secretary and Cricketer Cup Vice President and our man in the Lord’s scorebox) reports from the Ireland Test Match:

Old Cranleighan Ollie Pope not only made the fastest double century in Test Cricket for England today, his 205 from 208 balls is also the fastest Test double ever made in this country.

Pope made his CC debut for Old Cranleighans in a 2016 Quarter Final at Winchester, his 78 not out in that match securing a comfortable 9 wicket victory and progress towards the Final.

Against Ireland he added 252 for the second wicket with Old Stoic Ben Duckett (182) who is yet to appear in the Cricketer Cup, this following a century partnership featuring another CC batsman, Old Tonbridgian Zac Crawley who made 56.

In making his record-breaking score at Lord’s, Pope joins other Cricketer Cup batsmen Peter May (Charterhouse Friars), Colin Cowdrey (Old Tonbridgians), Andrew Strauss (Radley Rangers) and Rory Burns (Old Whitgiftians) on the famous pavilion Honours Board for a Test century at HQ.
