Nicholson Cricketer Cup Hall of Fame of the 2010-19 Decade announced
The Cricketer Cup Hall of Fame was launched in Autumn 2022 to celebrate the competition’s outstanding players over the decades, and today we’re delighted to announce our Hall of Fame 2010-2019, as a precursor to the All-Time list to be announced later in the year.
Schools were all asked to nominate players, and then a voting panel selected their Decade 1st XI from that list, requiring batters, bowlers, a wicket keeper and a captain. No more than two players from any one club can appear in the 1st XI.
With thanks to all schools who nominated players, ahead of the forthcoming first round of the Nicholson Cricketer Cup, we are able to announce our Hall of Fame 1st XI for the 2010-2019 Decade.
From nominations received, a voting panel has submitted their own votes and produced the result below. All players listed in the 1st XI received 3 votes or more from the panel, while three further players received 2 votes and are therefore included in our match-day squad.
In no particular order:-
1st X1
Fabian Cowdrey (Old Tonbridgians)
Will Vanderspar (Eton Ramblers)
Greg Smith (Oundle Rovers)
Ed Young (Old Wellingtonians)
Will Gifford (Old Malvernians) - Captain
Alex Milton (Old Malvernians) - W/K
Seren Waters (Old Cranleighans)
Jack Scriven (Old Cranleighans)
Oliver Howick (Old Tonbridgians)
Patrick Foster (Oundle Rovers)
Francois Vainker (St Edwards Martyrs)
Match Day squad
James Irvine-Fortescue (Old Wykehamists)
James Kettleborough (Old Bedfordians)
Ben Stevens (Old Wykehamists)
Many congratulations to all players listed. As a reminder we asked the voting panel to give us a team which included batters, bowlers, a wicket keeper and a captain.
Some of the batting statistics for the above listed - and indeed those who didn’t make the match-day squad - are exceptional by historical standards, and it will be interesting to see where they stand following the end of their Cricketer Cup careers.
