'Might Bite: The Secret Life of a Gambling Addict' Published by Bloomsbury Sport
Patrick Foster is known in Cricketer Cup circles as the opening bowler for Oundle Rovers in the last two finals. He is now also known for writing, with unflinching honesty, a recently published book about his gambling habit which came very close to destroying his life and that of those around him. The book explains how he was drawn into gambling at Durham University, where he combined a degree course with a professional cricket contract with Northants. The initial forays became an addiction which meant he had 75 gambling accounts in 65 different names on his phone, going through £4 million over 12 years and leading him into a pattern of dishonest behaviour of which he is now greatly ashamed . The title of the book relates to his last failed bet, £50,000 on Might Bite to win the Cheltenham Gold Cup in 2018.
The book has been warmly reviewed as a morality tale in itself and as a lesson to any others who find themselves being drawn into gambling addiction.. Patrick now works with the Professional Cricketer Association to raise awareness of the problem.
