Cricketer Cup Quarter-Finals Preview
The Nicholson Cricketer Cup reaches the quarter-final stage next Sunday. Six of the teams are former winners and there are some fascinating ties in prospect. Old Cheltonians are one side yet to get their names on the cup, but they have been building well in recent years and 146 from Ben Ringrose was the stand-out batting performance of the second round. They play Charterhouse Friars, with the tie switched to Charterhouse because of a county game at Cheltenham.
The winners of this tie will have a home game against either Old Malvernians, winners in 2023, or Bradfield Waifs, winners in 2022. This should be a close game, with both sides fielding many talented youngsters.
In the bottom half of the draw Haileybury Hermits, previous finalists but never winners, travel to Wellington, always a tough prospect, but the Hermits must be hoping that Sam Billings will be available again. The winners will have a home tie against either Old Tonbridgians, 2019 winners, or Old Millfieldians, 2021 winners. The Ellison brothers of Millfield will be hoping that they can win on a ground where their father Richard learned his cricket.
