Cricketer Cup Quarter-Finals
Three of the four quarter finals were completed but the match between Old Millfieldians and Old Merchant Taylors was abandoned because of rain at Millfield. Millfield had reached 192-4 off only 27 overs when the rain came, West Indian Test cricketer Kieran Powell scoring 83 off only 55 balls, and Fin Trenouth 62 not out. It will be replayed at Merchant Taylors next Sunday 18 July. The winners will travel to Malvern as the Old Malvernians were given a walkover by Old Cheltonians who were unable to raise a side because of Covid self-isolation problems.
The other semi-final will be between Oundle Rovers and Eton Ramblers at Oundle. Oundle Rovers recovered from 127-8 to post 198-9 in their 50 overs thanks to a classy 84 from Greg Smith. Old Cranleighans subsided from 110-2 to 160 all out with more than 8 overs to spare. Eton had a comprehensive win at Tonbridge over the holders, Old Tonbridgians. The Ramblers batted first and scored 319-8 in their 50 overs. Opener Tom Shaw top-scored with 98 off only 106 balls, and he was well supported by Al Russell, who was again in the runs with 55. Tonbridge were without prolific opener Fabian Cowdrey through injury and never looked likely to get close to the Eton score. Julian O’Riordan with 49 and Alex Moen with 42 were the highest scores, 4 wickets falling to F.O’Brien and 3 to Freddie Fox
