Cricketer Cup Final 2021

The 2021 Cricketer Cup Final at Arundel Castle on Sunday 8 August will be between Old Millfieldians and Oundle Rovers. Both semi-finals were tight games played against a backdrop of dodgy weather.

At Malvern, Old Malvernians were inserted by Old Millfieldians and found batting a struggle, Opener Davey was out for 42 with the score at 104-4, but thereafter the Millfield seamers held sway and Malvern could only post 197 in 45.5 overs. Brad Currie 3-18 in 9.5 overs was the pick of the bowlers, well backed up by Charlie Hartley with 2-27 and Charlie Ellison with 3-54. In reply Millfield similarly struggled to reach 97-6, but number 3 batsman, J. Baird, held the innings together with 92 not out, ably supported by Ellison with 26 in a partnership of 63, and Hartley then came in to finish the game with 28 not out.

At Oundle Eton Ramblers were without their captain Will Vanderspar and their batting struggled after winning the toss. The tail-enders managed to lift the score from 134-8 to 179 all out in the 46th over, but off-spinners Harry Ramsden 4-36 and Will Street 3-33 both bowled well. Oundle Rovers made a positive start with Ben Graves’s 40, but Greg Smith went cheaply for once and it was left to George Johansen with 48 not out to see Oundle to their second final in succession.
