2024 Nicholson Cricketer Cup gets under way
All four bye rounds were completed yesterday, with two home wins and two away wins, the two home wins by the newcomers to the Cricketer Cup. At Hampton the Old Hamptonians bowled out Stowe Templars for 134, with Rob Bentley taking 4-34, and then won by 5 wickets, opener Toby Godfray top-scoring with 58. Hampton will now play Felsted Robins in the first round.
Down in Wales, Old Monmothians made 224 in just short of their allotted 50 overs, the openers Hugo Caldicott and Gareth Ansell putting on 92. St Edward’s Martyrs could only make 109 in reply, Jeremy Lawlor the most successful bowler with 3-9. Monmouth now entertain Bradfield Waifs in the first round.
At Eastbourne there was a tight low-scoring game. Old Eastbournians could only make 126 in 36 overs and Charterhouse Friars just made it over the line by 2 wickets. Charterhouse now entertain Shrewsbury Saracens in the first round.
Eton Ramblers batted poorly at Eton, making only 128 against Oundle Rovers, will Street taking 5-41. Oundle came home comfortably by 5 wickets, Simon Fernandes top scorer with 34. Oundle now travel to Radley in the first round.
