Old Leysians win 2021 Cricketer Trophy Final

Old Leysians, alumni of The Leys in Cambridge, won the 2021 Cricketer Trophy in the final at Gerrards Cross, defeating Old Kings, the alumni of KCS Wimbledon. Old Leysians are newcomers to the competition and showed that they are a force to be reckoned with. In the semi-final they defeated Old Wellingburians, while Old Kings beat Old Westminsters.

Kings batted first in the final but could only make 183 in 47 overs after being 116-7. It was their number eight, Barnaby Oates, who top-scored with 33, while Andrew Salvesen took 5-62 and Milan Mniszko 3-35. In reply Mniszko capped a fine all-round match by scoring 55 in an opening stand of 107 with Chris Tapping, who went on to make 79 as The Leys cruised home by 7 wickets in only 29.4 overs.

The Cricketer Trophy is in good health, with 16 teams competing this year and hopes of raising this to 24 in 2022. Old Millfieldians, who won the Cricketer Cup this year, had won the Cricketer Trophy two years running in 2017 and 2018.
