Preview - Nicholson Cricketer Cup First Round
The first round of the Nicholson Cricketer Cup will be played on Sunday 12 June on 16 school grounds. The holders Old Millfieldians, who knocked out Old Malvernians in the preliminary round, now host Charterhouse Friars, themselves three times winners of the competition. Other interesting ties include a Sussex derby between Old Eastbournians and Old Hurst Johnians, and a Midlands contest between Oundle Rovers, beaten finalists in 2020 and 2021, and Repton Pilgrims who won the inaugural final in 1967.
There is a wide geographical spread of venues from Ampleforth and Shrewsbury in the north, who host Old Cheltonians and St. Edward’s Martyrs respectively, to Lancing in the south where Old Tonbridgians are the visitors. Nicholson Gin ‘Man of the Match’ awards will be made at each game. It is hoped that some games will be streamed - any details to be posted later in the week.
Let us hope for a fine weekend across the country and some great cricket!
